How do you define the term 'fiction'?

Fiction is any creative work depicting entities and events in a self-contained all-encompassing setting with elements that differ to some degree from those known in our reality. Fiction is employed in various artistic media mainly for entertainment but may also serve an educational purpose in how best to deal with real situations.
