What do people celebrate Halloween for?

When Halloween (All Hallows Eve) first began, it was celebrated to 'scare' off the evil demons and spirits before All Saints Day, which is on November 1st.

Nowadays, it is celebrated to dress up in costumes, and go Trick or Treating with family and friends.
