How do you troubleshoot a 50cc moped that starts but can not accelerate?

this most likely means that the drive belt isnt attached to the main gear or the belt is broken. try opening the gearbox. if you cant visibly see the problem, just take it to a local moped or motorcycle shop or something. Hope this helps.
