What is proper etiquette for seating arrangement in a car for husband wife and a navigator?

The proper seating arrangement in a car with a husband, wife, and navigator, depends on where these people would like to sit. Whoever is doing the driving will of course be in the drivers seat, some navigators like to be in the back so they can spread out maps, others prefer to be in the front so they can see street signs.
