Why is Abraham Lincoln significant?

The Presidents before him never made a law to keep the states together.Abraham Lincoln said he would do whatever it takes to keep the states together because they had a right to leave, a few almost did. He won the Civil war that involved the slaves. Not everyone loved him some hated him but from my perspective he was the greatest president the world ever had and ever will have.
