Why some Athenians found the ideas of Socrates so disturbing?

Some Athenians found Socrates' ideas disturbing because he challenged traditional beliefs and questioned the authority of established institutions. His method of questioning, known as the Socratic method, often led people to doubt their own knowledge and beliefs, which made them uncomfortable and defensive.
