First, in nature, earwigs are food for birds; but unfortunately, earwigs also eat plants and as you have seen, they can get into your basement, usually seeking a damp environment. To keep them out requires more than spraying, although extermination can certainly help. Make sure you fill any cracks where they might be getting in (including around Windows), and make sure none of your basement pipes have even a slight leak (earwigs look for damp conditions). As for spraying, make sure you spray all baseboards, and also use a spray that has residual effects;it is also good to spray later in the day, since earwigs come out at night. You may benefit from buying an over-the-counter crawling insect spray, or you can call a licensed professional exterminator-- they are allowed to use a stronger chemical than you can purchase in a store.
