Diversity of religion was a feature of the Roman Empire. The Romans conquered many ethnic groups which had different religions and customs allowed them to worship their religions and follow their customs. Rome itself only had one religion, the Roman religion. Because the empire included a wide ethnic mix, and through its extensive trading links, it became multicultural. Diversity in art, handicrafts and religion expressed the multiculturalism which developed in the empire.
