Can you ask the police to see the police report?

You are entitled to it, however they are usually not immediately available,. In my state it's about 10 days.

Added: The above answer would only apply to the original report which was made to the police, whether it was a criminal event or a traffic accident. However, any subsequent follow-ups to the original event/report, or any ongoing criminal investigations, are not considered public record due to the confidential and oftentimes unsubstantiated information which these reports may contain.
