How many slavery are in New Jersey?

Slavery was officially abolished in New Jersey in 1865 with the ratification of the 13th Amendment, but prior to that, the state had a significant number of enslaved individuals. Estimates suggest that, by the time of the American Revolution, there were about 12,000 enslaved people in New Jersey. Slavery persisted in the state into the 19th century, and remnants of the institution can still be seen in historical records and sites.
