William Driver, a sailor and the creator of the "Don't Tread on Me" flag, famously hid his flag in a quilt. He concealed it in the folds of the quilt to protect it from being confiscated during the Civil War. The quilt served as a clever disguise, allowing him to keep the flag safe until it was safe to display again.
