When was the first college football game played and who were the two teams that participated?

The first College Football game was played on November 6, 1869 and was between Rutgers University and the College of New Jersey, now known as Princeton University, at College Field on the Rutgers campus. The game was played under the rules of the English Football Association and more resembled soccer than it did American football. Players were allowed to advance the ball solely by kicking or batting it; they were not allowed to carry the ball. Rutgers won 6-4.
