Black powder, or gunpowder, does not explode in the vacuum of space because it requires oxygen to sustain combustion. In space, the lack of atmospheric pressure and oxygen prevents the rapid oxidation process necessary for an explosion. However, if black powder were contained in a sealed environment with sufficient oxygen, it could still ignite and produce a rapid release of gas, resembling an explosion.
