Can you use oven cleaner on a black glass top stove?

No, oven cleaner is too harsh for the stove top finish. I have had 2 cook stoves with ceramic top and I have been told both times you could only use the cleaner they recommend but there is generic brands at the dollar stores DG brand that is cheaper.
