What is erosion and why should we be concerned about it?

Erosion is the process of wearing away and displacement of soil or rock by wind, water, or other natural agents. We should be concerned about erosion because it can lead to loss of fertile soil, destruction of natural habitats, increased sediment in water bodies, and destabilization of landscapes, which can in turn impact agriculture, water quality, biodiversity, and infrastructure.
