Ida B. Wells became an activist in her early twenties after the lynching of her close friends in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1892. Initially a teacher and journalist, she used her writing to expose the injustices of racial violence and advocate for civil rights. Her investigative journalism and fierce anti-lynching campaigns made her a prominent figure in the fight for racial equality and women's rights.
