A bachelors degree will be required nearly everywhere in the U.S. Some states (Massachusetts, for example) require all public school teachers to have a masters degree. Private schools and pre-schools may be a bit looser in their requirements. The UK:

It depends on what subject you are taking in university. If you are taking History it lasts for three years but it depends on what you want the degree in. A PCGE is a year if you take it full time or two years if you take it part time. A PCGE is a post graduate certificate in education. But only take it if you already have a degree. I also recommend taking a Bachelor of education degree (BEd) which is where you study to become a teacher while taking a degree in university. A BEd takes either three or four years full time and five or six years part time and you get qualified teacher status (QTS) as well. Look at http://www.tda.gov.uk/Recruit.aspx for more information as it will help you a lot more. --------- Well basically it should take a Bachelors Degree as a very minimum, and with a Bachelors Degree, you have a worse chance of getting the than someone with a masters, and with a masters, you have a worse chance of getting a job than someone with a PhD or Doctorate Degree.
