If you're generally healthy it's a so-so idea. It won't do you much harm, but it won't do you much good either. As a means for weight loss it's pretty bad, the lack of food will cause your metabolism to slow right down, so once you start eating again you're quite likely to put on a few pounds before your body has speeded up again.
