Each individual can be independent if they so choose and no one is forcing them to be dependent on another. However, humans are meant to have feelings and compassion towards other human beings so they have a strong family; good friends and good work ethics because it builds character. While there are rules in this world we live Westernized countries have the luxury of freedom of speech and a free lifestyle so any individual has the opportunity to be very independent if they so choose. A person that goes through life thinking they do not need other human beings is going to be a very lonely person and miss out on some great opportunities in their career; family and friendships. Being independent in one's life and still maintaining a strong bond to family and friends is a balancing act.
