From what age can you sex a rabbit?

When male rabbits are born, their testicles are inside their abdomen. At about 4-5 months of age, the testicles drop in the scrotum. At this point, it should be easy to tell if the rabbit is male. However, if the rabbit is frightened, it can pull its testicles back into its abdomen; also, if a rabbit is neutered, there will be no testicles. It can be difficult to tell if a rabbit is male or female.

The rabbit needs to be at least 4-5 weeks old before it can be accurately sexed without a great deal of experience. Even at this age, it can still be difficult.

With young rabbits, cradle the rabbit like a baby. Gently spread its legs and then carefully spread the genitals. Very carefully pull down the upper part of the genitals until the genitals pop up. Female genitals will look like a slit. Male genitals will pop up and look like a tube.
