Where do word searches originate from?

Word searches originated in the United States in the late 1960s. The first known published Word search was created by Norman E. Gibat and appeared in a 1968 edition of a California newspaper called the "Syracuse University Daily Orange." The puzzle quickly gained popularity and has since become a common recreational activity in newspapers, magazines, and puzzle books worldwide.
