Pánfilo de Narváez led an expedition in 1520 that aimed to explore and colonize parts of present-day Florida. He sailed from Spain, landing on the west coast of Florida near Tampa Bay. After encountering difficulties and conflicts with Indigenous peoples, he attempted to journey inland but ultimately faced significant hardships, leading to a retreat along the Gulf Coast. Narváez's expedition is notable for its struggles and the tragic fate of many of its members.
