Comic books have a lot of different sounds that characters can make. Just cries alone have a huge range. Depending on what type of cry you want, the sound could be different. For example:

Yargh!!-- One might have experienced an inconvenient pain, such as a stubbed toe, or they're clenching their teeth to try and not scream as loudly as they could have.

AAAIEEEEEEEE!!-- Pain that could be a piercing pain, thus a piercing scream. Or perhaps this is more of a terrified scream, where your heart becomes chilled. That is also painful.

Yow! Ouch! etc-- Better for typical run of the mill pain, more for realistic comics. Good for a punch, or a pinch. Not really emotional, they are good for portraying simple experiences of a day.

Ooof! Ack!-- Not quite cries of pain, they still occur in painful situations. The first one might be for a punch to a gut, and the second for say a chop to the throat.

Finally, there's your run of the mill AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!! Usually, this is good for intense scenes of pain, such as torture or mental destruction. You can make it as short or long as you want.

Most sounds are just letters strung together to give the illusion of sounds, like tmp tmp for footsteps, or ssssshhhhh for a steady rainfall. So a cry of pain can really be anything, although there are still the examples I have given above.
