What did the Fijians believe in before the Europeans came to Fiji?

Before the missionaries came to Fiji. Fijians believe in superstitious God and snake Gods where the "Bete" or high priest is the only person allowed to perform the ritual inside a "Bure Kalou" or temple whereas the villagers sit outside the temple and meditate.
