Who is the California state auditor?

Currently, the California State Auditor is Elaine Howle.

She heads the CA Bureau of State Audits, which is basically the investigative arm of the legislature. It is very important to note, however, that when the BSA came about, it's statutory creation made it a VERY independent body. Neither the legislature nor the executive has control over audits the office conducts, nor do either have budgetary authority over the bureau.
