The first thing that must be understood about the Bible is that everything in it in some way points to Jesus Christ. Throughout the Old Testament, God uses history to portray patterns or "types" to demonstrate the message of salvation through Christ.
In Luke 24:27, we can see that Jesus uses this to explain the message of salvation: "And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself."
