Why did Martin Luther make a pilgrimage to rome?

Martin Luther made a pilgrimage to Rome in 1510 primarily to seek spiritual solace and to fulfill a vow as a member of the Augustinian order. He hoped to experience the holy city and its religious significance, as well as to visit key sites of pilgrimage and gain indulgences.
