When will planet earth be absorbed by the sun?

Planet Earth is expected to be absorbed by the Sun in about 5 billion years when the Sun exhausts its nuclear fuel and expands into a red giant. During this phase, it will lose a significant portion of its mass and could engulf the inner planets, including Earth. However, this process will take millions of years, and life as we know it will likely have ceased long before that point.
