How many public-use airports in us?

According to the 2013-2017 National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems, there are 4,880 public-use airports in the U.S., but that number includes about 1880 airports that are small airports with a small number of airplanes based there, no security to speak of, and are in an area that is not conducive to being developed any further than it already is.
