The person known as "Saint Louis" was King Louis IX of France, who was born in 1214 and ruled from 1226 until his death in 1270. The city of St. Louis in Missouri, United States is named after him, as are the city and state of San Luis Potosí in Mexico. Louis IX is the only king of France to have been canonized (i.e. to have been declared a saint by the Church).
