After John Hanson, the first President of the Continental Congress, died in 1783, his position was not directly succeeded in the same capacity, as the role was largely ceremonial and the Congress itself had undergone changes. The position of President of the Continental Congress was succeeded by Elias Boudinot. However, it’s important to note that the title and powers of the role evolved significantly with the establishment of the United States Constitution in 1789.
