The planes that hit the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, were American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175. Both flights originated from airports on the East Coast of the United States, with Flight 11 departing from Boston Logan International Airport and Flight 175 also taking off from the same airport. They were hijacked by terrorists associated with al-Qaeda shortly after takeoff. The planes were then flown into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City.
