No. The older practice of "filling it to the gills" has disappeared, and with good reason. It was unnecessary and wasteful, as spillage was very common with it. When the pump automatically shuts off, the tank is "full" to about the bottom of the fill pipe
fill pipe would almost certainly give you false readings in the engines computer about the fuel system - like a constant "Check Engine" or "Check Fuel Cap" sign in the dashboard display.
