1952 did the United States issue id tags that were simular to military dog tags to school age children in NYC NY?

The New York City Board of Education issued dog tags to public school children in the early 1950's. I was one of the recipients. I don't know if they also issued them to parochial school children. We also had to duck under our wooden desks and put our arms over our heads as part of atomic bomb protection drills. This was called duck and cover.
