Before migrating into the area now known as Russia, the Slavs primarily inhabited regions in Eastern Europe, including parts of modern-day Poland, Ukraine, and Belarus. They lived in a broader region known as Slavonia, which encompassed areas along the Vistula and Dnieper rivers. Over time, as they expanded, they moved eastward and northward, eventually settling in the territories that would become Russia. This migration began around the 6th century AD.
