Right up until the 60's children to teens and even adults didn't think much about depression and not many suffered from it as much as they do today. In many cases the person is too quickly medicated if they are having a depressed state for a couple of weeks (this is normal after a trauma or loss of a loved one) and short-term antidepressants can be used only if necessary. Yes, I believe antidepressants and other drugs are used too often on many people that don't need it instead of using good tools like counseling and learning Cognitive Therapy. The drugs companies just love to keep making those pills and raking in billions of dollars from them and in the U.S. and Canada we are becoming (have become) pill popping countries. There are some severe mental illness' that do need medication, but should be monitored very carefully by the doctor. It appears the human race isn't suppose to experience any type of emotion!
