Have a high school diploma or GED WITH college hours (at least 20). You may enlist at 17, but must have consent from a parent or legal guardian. If you enlist at 18+, this is no longer necessary.

You will be required to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test (ASVAB), and you must score a minimum of 32 on the General Technical out of a possible 130 for the Army. Your GT score (as well as other line scores) will determine was occupations will be open to you.

You will undergo urinalysis testing, an extensive physical, and a criminal background check. Having a record does not necessarily disqualify you from entry - that will be dependent on a number of different factors.

You must either be a United States Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien (i.e., 'green card' holder) with a declared intent of obtaining US citizenship. Additionally, as a foreign citizen, you may be audited according to your country of origin for acceptance into the Armed Forces (your home country must be on an approved list).

Then, after all of that is said and done, you must attend and complete Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training, from which point, you will proceed to your assigned duty station.

Right now 30 April 2010 there are four basic requirements for a person to be qualified for enlistment;

1. High School Senior/Graduate, College Students or GED with minimum of 15+ college credits

2. No Major Law Violations (ie. DUI, Possession, Sexual/Domestic assault or violence, etc...)

3. Ability to pass the ASVAB with a 31 or higher (maximum score of 99)

4. Have no major medical issues (ie... mental disorders, physical disorders)

Some others issues could be age, number of dependants or meet height/weight requirements there are others but it is best to contact a local recruiter and determine eligibility.
