How faster is an airplane then a car?

If a car travels 60 miles an hour (one mile a minute), then a commercial airliner can travel up to or exceed 10 times as fast. 600 miles per hour means that it would take an airliner 2 hours to travel a distance of 1200 miles (roughly the distance from Detroit to Tampa). With a good tail wind the trip can be shortened to an hour and a half which means the plane would be travelling faster than 600 miles an hour.
