Remove the outer primary cover and inspect for damage to the starter gear or the gear on the clutch basket. Observe the starter operation for improper engagement and replace all damaged and faulty parts. you either have a bad starter clutch or a missing tooth on your ring gear or starter or both. Id be willing to bet you are missing some teeth
