Is there any software to make your ps3 region free?

PS3 games are region free.......everything else you're on your own. I was scammed into buying a Japanese PS3 on Ebay but I currently live in Canada so I'm plagued with the same problem. There are no current mod chips and no software that change the region like there was for the PS2. Hopefully one day there will be a fix for this as I would like to watch m DVD's and play PS2 games on my system.
