A bare cylinder block does not contain any other parts. Assuming it is an internal combustion crankshaft/camshaft style engine it should have the following:

  • cylinders
  • crankshaft journals
  • camshaft journals
  • mating surfaces for necessary components such as cylinder heads, oil pan, exhaust and intake manifolds, and etc.
  • drilled/tapped holes for the necessary fasteners (bolts/studs)
  • other holes/passages as needed

Note: Cylinder heads usually contain the exhaust and intake manifold mating surfaces.
