How was the Sears Tower built?

It was built to house the main offices of Sears, Roebuck, and Co. Sears has not had offices in the building since 1992, it was purchased by a group of real estate investors in 2004 and Willis Insurance Group has recently become the largest tenant. The building was officially renamed Willis Tower on July 16, 2009.
