What is a direct online circuit?

A direct online (DOL) circuit is a method used to start electric motors by connecting them directly to the power supply. This type of starting method provides full voltage to the motor, allowing it to reach full speed quickly. However, it can draw a high inrush current, which may cause voltage dips in the power supply and stress the motor and electrical components. DOL starters are typically used for small motors where the high starting current can be tolerated.
