This is not a fair question, because Ronald Reagan was president during a time that gay rights and equality for LGBT people were not in the spotlight.

In the 1980's gay people were fighting for the right not to be thrown in jail for having intimate relations. But there was little in the news, other than the AIDS epidemic. Many people believe that the Reagan administration handled the AIDS crisis very poorly, likely because of their hostility toward gay people.

Back then, the vast majority of Americans opposed gay rights, still believing that gay people were sick or deviant.

Gay people have come a long way since the 1980's.
