What was the share-our-wealth?

Share Our Wealth was a political movement launched by Louisiana Senator Huey P. Long in the 1930s during the Great Depression. The initiative aimed to address economic inequality by redistributing wealth through progressive taxation and providing a guaranteed income, pensions, and education for all citizens. Long's plan proposed capping personal fortunes and using the excess to fund social programs, thereby promoting greater economic security for the impoverished and middle class. Although the movement gained significant support, it faced criticism and was ultimately curtailed with Long's assassination in 1935.
