What is the function of mitocontrion?

Mitochondria are known as the powerhouses of the cell, as their primary function is to produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the main energy currency of the cell, through the process of oxidative phosphorylation. They also play a role in regulating metabolism, controlling cellular respiration, and managing the production of reactive oxygen species. Additionally, mitochondria are involved in apoptosis (programmed cell death) and the maintenance of cellular calcium levels.
