The Adonic feasts were a celebration for women honoring Aphrodite and her lover Adonis. The Thesmophoria was a Greek celebration of the story of Persephone and lasted for ten days. They would sacrifice pigs and throw cakes in the shape of snakes and phalluses on the fields to insure a good harvest.
