This can be a little tricky. Hispano is the Spanish Word for Hispanic. A strict interpretation would be peoples of colonial Spanish decent with a largely Spanish culture who, though they live in the United States now, were living in these areas when they were annexed into the US years ago. They distinguish themselves from Mexican Americans who came here after the Mexican Revolution.
But, today the term Hispanic is commonly used in North America to refer to any person of Latin American origin or descent.
