Where was the Chihuahua's principle home?

Chihuahua in northern Mexico is the state the breed was named after. Though there is little solid proof for the breed's origin the common theory is they were bred from a dog kept by the Toltec known as Techichi that was cross bred with smaller Asian dogs to produce the current breed.
