What does the ovum ripen?

The ovum, or egg cell, ripens through a process called oogenesis, which occurs in the ovaries. During this process, primordial follicles develop into mature follicles, leading to the maturation of the ovum. Hormones such as follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) play critical roles in promoting this maturation process.
